Teenage heartache has become a public commodity. Young people now broadcast the most intimate moments of their lives to a global audience on social media platforms. They enact break-ups and reconciliations in the midst of the data stream, and seek out solace from the crowd.

Everything is Going To Be OK explores this new, performative model for love and loss that is emerging in networked environments. The work features projections of dialogues constructed in real-time out of data from Twitter. It is a collaboration with hybrid media artist Dr Andrew Burrell.

Following its showing at the Underbelly Arts Festival on Cockatoo Island on 3-4 August 2013, Everything Is Going To Be OK was a curated artwork at FBi Turns 10 at Sydney’s Carriageworks (pictured) on 8 September 2013. A revised version was exhibited and performed at the Electronic Literature Organization conference Media Arts Show in Milwaukee, USA on 19-21 June 2014.

Update! Everything Is Going To Be OK 🙂 is now a web app. Check it out at its new permanent archival site.
